FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
1. What languages are offered at e-word?
- At the e-word language school, you can learn English and Serbian for foreigners.
2. Are the classes always online?
- Yes, the classes are always online and we can use any app that suits you (Skype, Zoom, Facetime, Hangouts, Messenger, Meet, Viber …)
3. Are the classes in the form of videos or are they live?
- The classes are live and they are the same as if we were in a classroom, the only difference is that we will have screens between us. There are also video courses that you can buy, but only for Serbian language learners, not for those learning English.
4. What is my level of knowledge?
- The first class is a free trial lesson and its purpose is for us to get to know each other and for you to decide whether our cooperation suits you. Also, that class will be an ideal opportunity for me to assess your knowledge level so that I could plan our classes in the future and send you the right learning material.
5. How many levels are there and how long do they last?
- Based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference For Languages), there are 6 levels of foreign language proficiency – from A1 to C2. You can find more details about this topic here.
6. Do I have to complete all the levels?
- You do not need to complete all levels. It is up to you to decide how long you wish to study.
7. How can I pay for the classes?
- You can pay for every class individually or you can buy one of the packages and get a discount that way. You may find further information here.
8. How can I make the payment?
- You can transfer the funds directly onto the school’s account if you are in Serbia, or you can choose an online payment method (PayPal, Revolut, Western Union, etc.). We will send you an invoice with all the payment details when we start with the classes.
9. When can I have my classes?
- The working hours of the school are from 9 am to 9 pm, from Monday to Friday, so you can book your lesson when it suits you, depending on the available time slots. We can have fixed appointments (each time at the same time) or you can schedule each time at a different time (scheduling is at least 24 hours before the beginning of the lesson).
10. Do I need to buy a book?
- It is always good to have a nice book that will guide you. Once we determine your level of knowledge and your interests, I can recommend a book that I think would be suitable and I can tell you where you can buy it. On the other hand, I often combine several different learning methods, and that way I adapt to each student individually. In that case, there is no need for you to buy books because I will send you materials based on a program tailored to you.
11. How long does each class last?
- I will leave this decision up to you. We just need to agree in advance.
12. How many classes a week is optimal?
- Again, this will be your decision to make. In general, what has proven to be the best approach is that in the beginning, classes should be more frequent and shorter because a lot of information needs to be processed, so it is best to divide it all into smaller “bites”. Over time, classes can be booked less frequently and can last longer because there is more emphasis on practice, repetition, and improvement rather than new information.
13. How long should I learn a language?
- It very much depends on the student. Different factors can determine the length of the whole process: the initial knowledge level and the goal are one of the main players here. Sometimes it takes a couple of months for the student to refresh the already acquired knowledge, and sometimes it takes a few years to perfect the language. It all depends on how much contact you have with the language, how much you work on your own (outside of classes), on concentration, dedication, your mother tongue (how similar or different it is to Serbian/English), etc.
14. How fast can I start with the classes?
- You can start immediately, as soon as we agree on everything and schedule a free trial lesson.
15. How do I book a free trial lesson?
- Write to me at info@e-word.co and tell me when are you available, so we will plan everything together.
16. Will I get a certificate?
- Of course. After completing each level, you will receive a test that will accurately determine your progress and knowledge, and based on that, you will receive a certificate both in a digital form and in paper form.
17. Do I have to take classes in order to receive a certificate?
- It is not necessary to have classes, it is enough to take an official test that will determine your skills, and based on that, you will receive a certificate. You can find out more about the process here.
18. What do the tests look like?
- Based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference For Languages), the test taken at the end of each level consists of writing, reading, comprehension of the text, grammar, listening, and conversation. All these aspects of the language are assessed at the end of each of the 6 levels. Each test takes 2 hours to complete, after which, you will receive your results within the first 48 hours (on weekdays), and soon after the certificate as well.
19. Is a free trial lesson mandatory?
- The free trial class does not refer to the purchase of video courses for foreigners learning Serbian and does not refer to taking a test for the purpose of issuing a certificate. The trial class is available to all new students who want to have live classes. Also, a trial class is organised once, so if you take a break and want to continue with your classes, later on, there is no need for another trial class.
20. I have more questions and I need more help, what should I do?
- The best thing would be for you to write to me at info@e-word.co and I will be happy to answer all your questions.
